Although Moving Boxes are the main ingredient for a successful move, there are other moving supplies than can be beneficial to making sure that your household goods get packed and transported safely.

Poly (polyethylene) moving supplies

Mattress Bags

Mattress Bags are made of a low slip polyethylene with vent holes. A good quality mattress bag will keep your mattress free of dirt, dust or water damage. Dust can settle deep into mattress fibers during a move or while in storage. Mattress bags are essential for allergy sufferers or anyone sensitive to dust. If you have ever moved a mattress and box spring before you have probably stood it on end and tried to lift it by holding onto the material and dragging it across the floor. This is typical. With a polyethylene mattress bag on your mattress, you can lift the mattress by grabbing hold of the plastic and there are no worries about dragging the mattress across the floor. Although, a professional mover will make valiant efforts to keep the back of their moving vans clean, there is still considerable amounts of dust and dirt that is transferred to the floor of the moving truck and then transferred to the fabric of your mattress. Using mattress bags will keep your mattress and box spring completely clean throughout your move.

Stretch wrap (a.k.a. Pallet wrap )

Stretch wrap is a high elongation, polyethylene based film that is used to protect products during storage and shipment. Most commonly used in warehouses, it can also be an essential tool as a barrier from dirt, dust or water damage for those impossible to pack items. In a lot of cases stretch wrap can also protect against wood furniture form scratches. Stretch wrap come on rolls that are 100's( or 1000's) of feet in length and anywhere from 5 inches to over a foot in height. Stretch wrap clings to it's self as you wrap around the item you are protecting. For a large item like sofa, place it in the middle of the room so that you have plenty of room to walk around it. Starting at the bottom, pull some stretch wrap off the roll and tie it to the leg of the sofa ( if there are no legs ask someone to help you and have them hold the poly against the sofa) This will keep the tension in the poly as you go around the first time. As you walk around the sofa pull on the stretch wrap tightly ( stretch it ) and slowly lift up the stretch wrap while wrapping. As you make one complete round, the stretch wrap should only be overlapping about half the height of the previous wrap. Continue this until the sofa is completely wrapped. When your sofa reaches it's destination, do not try to unwrap. Just take scissors and carefully cut away the stretch wrap and discard.

Bubblewrap

Bubblewrap is Ideal for moving and protecting glass and other fragile items . Bubblewrap usually comes in rolls and is perforated for easy tear off or it can be packaged in individual sheets. Sizes may vary but it easily cut to any size with common household scissors. Bubblewrap only needs to be wrapped once around your fragile items and the air in the bubbles act as a cushion against shocks, bumps or any drops received on the outside of the moving box. Wrap each item with bubble wrap to protect and cushion against any shock that occurs when the items come in contact with each other or if the moving boxes receive any trauma.

Packing Tape

Packing tape 110 yards to the roll, 3" core shipped in packs of 4, enough to seal about 100 medium boxes. Very strong and durable. flexible, waterproof, slit, burst and stretch-resistant. Packing tape is the most important peice of the moving supply puzzle. Packing tape is litterally the glue that holds everything together.

Other Moving Supplies

Tape Dispenser

Tape Dispensers are made of steel and high-impact plastic. Fold in flaps of your moving box, apply tape end, roll across carton at the seam and tilt and cut. Adjustable tension brake controls tape unwind. For quick reloading the tape guide flips down. For use with the above packing tape but will accomodate all 2" wide, 3" core box sealing tapes up to 110 yards in length.

Box Cutters

Although they are called box cutters, the majority of the cutting you will do with them is cutting tape and poly( mattress bags, stretch wrap). Box cutters are mostly used to quickly unpack moving boxes. Just cut the packing tape across the seam and release the flaps of the moving boxes.

Packing Paper ( Newsprint )

Packing Paper is clean paper used to wrap dishes or any breakable fragile objects. Packing paper come in 24x36 sheets and is sold by the pound or can be packaged in reams ( A quantity of paper, formerly 480 sheets, now 500 sheets )
